Practicing the Principles in All Our Affairs
Kelly K. is a staffer at Sober Living by the Sea who brings a great flair and enthusiasm to the team. In this blog entry he explains what "practicing the principles" can mean while on the job and also how having faith in the process can overcome fear.
Practicing The Principles Relieves Fear
Even with years of sobriety now I find myself on a daily basis in the grips of fear.
The program of recovery that I have been taught suggests that I "practice the principles in all my affairs." Slowly but surely I am applying these principles to my life.
Replacing Fear with Faith
One of my biggest fears is, "Am I going to be able to keep providing for my family by keeping my job and paying my bills?" The program has taught me to suit up and show up on time and to give my employer a 100% of my attention at work, by doing the things that the program has suggested it allows me to keep my conscience clear by keeping my side of the street clean. I believe in my own mind that I have tried as hard as I can and that if there were any changes in my life or lifestyle then, it would be Gods will.
Recently my work has asked that I along with all my other co-workers to get involved in customer service, by calling past clients and by blogging.
It was a change that I really did not understand the significance, but the program taught me to give my employer a 100% so I made the call backs and have gotten used to blogging 15 minutes to 30 minutes a day. Once once again, I am given the opportunity to "get into action" by doing what has been directed by my employer.
As a result of this, 3 major things have happened:
- The fear of loosing the job has lessened
- I actually feel part of the team.
- I learned why what I was doing is very important.
I learned that in the treatment business, it may not be the biggest or most glamorous treatment centers that are the most successful. It might be the small treatment center that has the most team spirit and program. When I was asked to do some blogging a successful team will not challenge the suggestion or ask "why?" They will rally together as a team and get into action and do as directed. These suggestions are made by people that just might know a little more of how and what it takes to stay operational.
By practicing these principles in all my affairs my quality of life improves,
Do I always understand what is suggested? NO!
I just do it , and I have never had it so good despite myself.
