Loss of Male Role Model Created a Void

This is a letter from a grateful mother of one of our recovering men who had coped with quite a bit of loss by developing a drinking problem.

I am so blessed and thankful that we were guided to the right resource such as Sunrise Recovery - plus more that may follow for my son Matthew's* health and well-being.  I had been praying for his understanding that he has a great problem with drinking and could not address it alone.  I think now he has come to realize it and is willing to follow through with what ever is going to help him and that he isn't alone.

We are a church going family, even more since his daughter began in pre-school at a Christian school here in El Cajon.  She has now entered her eighth year in the same school.  Her father Matthew is very proud of her in all her endeavors. She is an honor roll student with all "A's." She is in the band and plays saxophone, sometimes as a soloist.  A very loving and caring child, we all love her dearly.

Matthew lost his father to a fatal auto accident thirteen years ago while on a deer hunting trip in New Mexico.  After dealing with that we went through a three year custody court battle with the child's mother. Matthew winning as the priority parent with only visitations for the mother. Then, Matthew lost his grandfather (my dad). His grandfather had stepped in for Matthew as Matthew had lost his dad, filling the void.  His grandfather passed at the age of 87.

Matthew had never been a problem during his younger years. He had been a very mellow kind of guy.  he was mostly close to his grandfather, helping him in most ways.  His grandfather returned the love and caring to Matthew as well.

Matthew was left without a male image to give him strength and security.  I've tried but it's not the same and I've seen that.  I'm hoping and praying that the guidance and strength that he received at Sunrise will open the door and give him the willingness to stop drinking for good.  I know that you have already touched his heart!  Matthew needs special people that understand his disabilities and can help him with the alcohol problem.

I pray that this is all in God's Plan.  Matthew and his daughter deserve this, because they are God loving people.

Again, I can't say it enough THANK YOU! Juan, Todd, Ismael, and the rest of the staff - God Bless YOU!

With Gratefulness,

Sandra
