A Day in Life at Sunrise Recovery Ranch

Patients at Sunrise Recovery Ranch follow a highly structured daily schedule. The day begins at 6:30 a.m. when patients wake up in their spacious, sun-lit rooms on our six-bedroom ranch in the Riverside foothills. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served family style and prepared by our chef who specializes in a wide variety of world cuisines. Patients take advantage of our peaceful location with panoramic views of the mountains to the east and surrounding meadows to meditate in the morning.

We encourage patients to rebuild their physical strength as part of their program of recovery and set aside time each morning for exercise. Patients may swim in the pool or work out on our cardiovascular equipment and weight machines. After cleaning up their living area, a full day of lectures, group therapy sessions and 12-Step meetings begins.

In their free time, patients can journal or do Step work in their rooms, or take a few minutes to visit and feed the horses, goats, peacocks and other animals on our property. Softball is one of the favorite activities at the ranch and patients are proud of the trophies they’ve won in competitions against other treatment programs in the area.

At Sunrise Recovery Ranch, our patients attend a 12-Step meeting every evening, whether in the community or on the ranch. On weekends, the community gathers for a barbeque and trips to movies, bowling or nearby nature areas. At 10:30 p.m., the day comes to a close as patients rest up for another day of personal and spiritual exploration.

Process Group
Led by a marriage and family therapist, this group helps patients work through their underlying feelings and issues by guiding them through our research-based recovery curriculum. Patients learn about the disease of addiction, anger management, communication skills, relapse prevention, spirituality and other recovery-related topics.

Lecture
Lectures are educational sessions about addiction and recovery led by our marriage and family therapist.

TASK Group
Patients use the information from lectures to complete handouts from our recovery book, with assistance and feedback from our team of counselors.

Step Process Group
This group guides patients through Steps 1 through 4 of the 12-Step program. Every patient has the option to meet with our renowned spiritual advisor to process Steps 5 through 8 in a one-on-one, confidential setting.

Aftercare Planning
Patients identify the people, places and things that trigger their cravings to use drugs or alcohol and formulate a plan for dealing with those triggers after they leave the ranch. Our staff helps set up therapy appointments, intensive outpatient treatment and 12-Step involvement, depending on each patient’s individual needs.

Free Time
Every evening, patients have free time to play softball, read, write letters or journal. The entire community also enjoys off-campus outings such as movies, bowling, the driving range or a hike up scenic Mount Rubidoux.

Big Book Study
Patients work through the “Big Book” of Alcoholics Anonymous with guidance and feedback from our counselors.

SCL-90R
Patients complete psychiatric and bio-psycho-social assessments as well as personality tests and review the results with our counselors. Based on these assessments, our staff works in concert with each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan.
